BOARD MEMBERS

Dr. Erole McLean Hobdy, M.D.

Dr. Erole McLean is a medical oncologist/hematologist who practices primarily in the U.S. Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands.

​

She received her medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. Dr. McLean completed her internship and residency training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York then completed her Oncology and Hematology fellowship at Yale Cancer Center.

​

As a well-respected expert in the field of oncology, the Jamaican-born medical professional is often called upon to represent the medical community and share her expertise as a keynote speaker for conferences, workshops and governmental meetings, as she offers insight and information in an effort to raise awareness about key health issues on a local and global scale.

​

As an oncologist practicing in the Caribbean since 2004, Dr. McLean became aware of the needs of those diagnosed with cancer without insurance or the means to cover the cost of their cancer care.  This prompted her to establish The Healing Hands Worldwide Foundation, which serves to assist in providing no-cost cancer medications and treatment to those who need it the most.

Dr. Sonia Taylor-Griffith, DDS

Dr. Sonia Taylor-Griffith is a pediatric dentist serving the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Jamaican-born dental professional earned her dental degree from Howard University College of Dentistry and her Pediatric Dentistry Certificate from Montefiore Medical Center.


With a successful practice that has been in the U.S.V.I. for over 20 years, Taylor-Griffith is also a former member of the Local Chapter of The American Cancer Society.


As a current member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, and the Virgin Island's Dental Association, she also serves on the board of the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry and is a former board member of the Virgin Islands Montessori and Peter Gruber International Academy.


Dr. Taylor-Griffith currently resides on the island of St. Thomas with her sons Aidan, and Christopher, and enjoys running, yoga, reading and traveling.

Norman Gray

Norman Gray is a long-time and well-respected entrepreneur and businessman. Originally from Jamaica, Norman has been living  and operating his successful retail business in the U.S. Virgin Islands for over 30 years.


As the past President of the non-profit, Jamaica Association Chapter in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Norman successfully grew and developed the organization towards community and Territorial success with community enrichment engagements, social opportunities, as well as political impact and engagement. He prides himself in continuing his commitment to giving back to his community and beyond.

Dolace McLean, Esq. Ph.D.

Dolace McLean, Esq. currently serves as General Counsel in the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of the United States Virgin Islands and holds a law degree from Cornell University Law School and a Ph.D. in English from New York University.


Prior to her current role, McLean was the founder and CEO of a specialty law practice with a focus on appellate litigation where she successfully managed and served a large client base.


An active member of the Virgin Islands Bar, McLean is licensed to practice in the Territory of the Virgin Islands and the State of New York.  A former faculty member of the University of the Virgin Islands, she proudly served as an Assistant Professor of English as well as producing book reviews, interviews and articles dealing with Law & Caribbean Literature. 


When not delving into legal matters, McLean likes to spend time with friends and sailing the beautiful waters of the Virgin Islands.

Dr. Cecilia Penn, MD, MPH, FAAP

Medical Advisor | cpenn@hhworldwide.org

Dr. Penn is a Board Certified Pediatrician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Penn received her college education at Cornell University, where she obtained a Bachelors of Arts in Biology and Society in May 1997. With a focus on primary care and preventive medicine in under-served communities, she obtained her medical degree at Howard University College of Medicine in May 2001.
 
Dr. Penn completed her post-graduate training in pediatrics at the New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University, where she also received specialty training in Community Pediatrics through the Anne E. Dyson Community Pediatrics Program. She obtained further training in Preventive Medicine and obtained a Master in Public Health (MPH) degree in Health Policy and Management/International Health from The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health in June 2006. 


To achieve practical experience in public health/policy, Dr. Penn received the distinguished Luther Terry Fellowship within the Office of the Surgeon General and worked in the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, DC.

Sharlene Cameron

Sharlene Cameron is a graduate of Nyack College, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management. With a professional career that spans 36 years in the financial and non-profit sectors, Sharlene served as Assistant Controller at Gintel Asset Management, where she oversaw the operations of three mutual funds and managed a portfolio of private equity accounts. After working at the investment firm, she went on to work at The Greenwich Country Day School as the  Director of the Annual Fund and Director of Programs for Diversity. Most recently she was the Director of Development at the Greenwich Library in Greenwich, CT.  


Having volunteered in various capacities of the not-for-profit sector, including independent schools, local churches and civic organizations, her most noteworthy accomplishment was in the role as chairman of the board of the YWCA of Greenwich, CT., where she served the organization for consecutive two-three year terms. As an immediate past president of the local chapter, she represented the YWCA of USA at the world convention as a voting delegate in Brisbane, Australia.
